1945 - 1984

Patrick Nagel would start his preliminary drawing with a photograph and worked down, simplifying and removing elements that he felt were unnecessary. The final image would look flat but emphasized those elements that he felt were most important. His figures generally have black hair, bright white skin, full-lipped mouths, and the distinctive Nagel eyes, which are often squared off in the later works. Click on each image to enlarge.
